Wow, what a wonderful day 345 people experienced who attended the Afternoon tea/Movie Fundraising function at Palace Cinema, Balwyn. Not only did we see a great movie ‘The One Hundred Foot Journey’ with Helen Mirrem but enjoyed afternoon tea with friends and family and contributed to raising $6,726.00 towards building the Medical Centre in Kanthi.
THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO ATTENDED AND ALL THOSE WHO COULD NOT BUT DONATED SO GENEROUSLY.
Thank you to Elaine Martin of Cheesecake Haven in Doncaster East who made all the cakes. Thank you to Woolworths in Macedon Plaza, Lower Templestowe who donated all the ingredients for afternoon tea. A special thank you to the Committee of the Women’s Friendship Group who made 345 rounds of beautiful sandwiches.
Upon calculating the money in the Bendigo Bank from previous donations being $3,450.04 together with the money raised at the fundraising event we now have enough money to build the Medical Centre (Dispensary) as per the plan in Update Bulletin No. 29 on 18th June, 2014. As the village people are making the bricks themselves as seen in Update Bulletin No. 35 of 13th August, 2014, that is a cost saving as well as their in kind contribution towards the project. We also have the money set aside which was donated for the Nursery School children’s breakfast and lunches to be forward in September for their Third Term food supply.
I rang Pastor Daniel to advise him of the success and generosity of the people who contributed to the fundraising function and forward the first payment of Ksh 215.100.00 (A$2,728.56 which included a Western Union fee of $60.92). Daniel said the people are so excited at the prospect of the Dispensary and are working tirelessly in making the bricks. The weather there is hot and dusty. He said he would forward photos of their progress together with receipts of purchases of materials.
