I wrote in Update Bulletin No. 31 about raising funds for a ‘Dispensary’ or Medical Clinic to complete what I believe are the needs of the village in Kanthi. In proposing to build the Medical Clinic I decided to write to the local Government minister Hon. Rachael Nyamai to seek Government recognition and assistance in running the clinic. I did elevate Rachael’s status within the Kenyan Government and so I stand corrected. I received Rachael’s reply as follows:
Dear Hellen,
We appreciate the contribution you make in Kanthi village and all you have done so far as enumerated and seen on the ground. We have already done the land purchase and now are working on a classroom and eventually a school in your honor and all others who support this village. Indeed this is commendable.
I am not the minister for health. I am the mp for the constituency and also the chair for health In parliament. We have a cabinet secretary who is none political in Kenya. Health is devolved.
Regarding the dispensary…..I encourage you to proceed with the idea. We will contact the necessary authorities at the county level as health in Kenya is devolved function to counties Govts. This I will do when the structure is done. We can also explore ways of collaborating with you as a constituency after we deliver the classroom.
As we do in our plans it’s one project at a time so to discuss the next project, we must deliver the classroom to the primary school first.
As always I thank you
Cheers
Rachael Nyamai
A great acknowledgment that Rachael, as the local member of Government for Kitui, stated in writing that she is to deliver on her promise, that is to build a Primary school following on from the Nursery school which was opened in January this year. Rachael has committed over Kshs 1,000,000.00 for the school project which included the purchase of the land.
