Update Bulletin 29

I decided to send the money for the uniforms for the Nursery School children last week and the fee from Western Union was only $20.00, in total I sent $131.10. I asked Daniel to place the order with the tailor to make the uniforms for twenty children and send photos accordingly. Now with money for breakfast and lunch and a nice uniform the ‘little ones’ will feel very special!

Daniel sent me the plan and costing for the Dispensary, I think it looks more like ‘our clinics’! To offset some of the cost Daniel said that the village people will supply the sand and stones and make the bricks. I asked how they would afford this and was told that they walk to areas where they can collect sand and carry it back to the village. They take mallets out into the bush and break up stones and carry them back also. They then proceed to make brick, especially now they have water. Daniel is very excited with this project as I believe it will complete the ‘model’ village for his people. He also said the Hon. Rachael Nyamai has released the money for the Primary school to be built.

Please see the plan for the Dispensary and costing below:

The total cost of the quotation is Kshs 714,450.00 (A$8,931.00 as per conversion rate 10/6/2014). The village people will contribute in kind Kshs 85,500.00 (A$1,069.00) leaving a balance to pay of Kshs 628,950.00 (A$7,862.00). As Daniel is ‘keen’ to proceed with the building works, and has the people gathering materials, I shall negotiate with Daniel to see if we can build it in ‘usable’ stages or wait until we have all the funds. I am reluctant to commit to a project without sufficient funds and currently I have $3,250.04 in the Kanthi account, (less than half the required amount) so I shall have to consider another ‘fund raising event’ in order to finalize this work.

To date we have completed some ‘life changing’ projects being Food for 12 months for the village, the Water Kiosk, the Greenhouse, the Nursery School, a large chain fence around the compound, so with patience we can succeed with this also.

I contacted a lady who is travelling to Kenya in July and she is willing to take the medical supplies. I am going to contact the Department of Health and Department of Immigration to obtain a letter stating the medical supplies (especially the bags of needles) are for the Dispensary in Kanthi. We need these supplies to ‘arrive’ at their destination, unlike the crayons!

Cheers,

HELEN
