I mentioned in Bulletin Update No. 23 that Martin Wells of St. John Ambulance accepted Ruth Ntheeu (Daniel’s wife) to complete a two day First Aid course. In order to get into the city by 8.00 a.m. Ruth came to stay with Jo and I from Sunday evening. The course commenced at 8.15 a.m. until 4.15 p.m. Monday 5th and Tuesday, 6th May. What a wonderful experience for this ‘very learned’ lady. Upon completion of the two days of intense instructions by a very good trainer Owen, the participants had to complete an assessment whereby the pass mark was 28/35 which equated to 80%. Our ‘star pupil’ received a score of 33/35, she was so excited and rightly so! I congratulate Ruth on her tenacity and determination in not only completing the course but on such a great score. Ruth being a retired teacher is now able to return to Kenya and train other women in First Aid. This is another wonderful outcome for the people of Kanthi.
Ruth wishes to convey her immense thanks to St. John Ambulance and especially Owen for his patience in explaining aspects of the course foreign to her e.g. asphyxiation, D.F.B. (defibrillation).
