Update Bulletin 23

In my last Bulletin Update No. 22 I mentioned the generosity of three ladies from the Bulleen Pharmacy in donating First Aid kits and compression bandages for the village people of Kanthi to help combat snake bites initially. Following on from these donations I contacted Mr. Martin Wells, Marketing Manager of St. John Ambulance who agreed to have Ruth Ntheeu complete a two day course on First Aid at their King Street, Melbourne premises and importantly Mr. Wells is offering the course gratis to Ruth, (value $230.00). This is the second generous in kind service St. John Ambulance has done for the people of Kanthi, the first being when they donated their services at the Walk for Water walkathon in April, 2012. What a wonderful not for profit organisation St. John Ambulance is. Ruth (as a retired teacher) is to participate in the training on Monday, 5th and Tuesday 6th May from 8.30 a.m to 4.15 p.m. daily. Following this training Ruth will return to Kanthi and train a number of women in first aid to assist in treating their people, especially for snake bites.

I wish to congratulate Ruth, as a senior Kenyan woman visiting this country, being prepared to undertake this training with the view to assisting her people upon her return. Also congratulations to St. John Ambulance for offering this training to Ruth.

As the first school term concluded and the second term is due to commence next week I am sending the second payment, being $306.00, for food for the children at the Nursery School, thanks to the generosity of our anonymous donor couple. Daniel has photos of the mats we purchased for the children for their ‘sleep time’ and is forwarding photos in due course.

I also sent another email to Hon. Rachael Nyamai thanking her again for her government’s generous monies she has allocated to Daniel for the purchase of the land to build the first classroom of the Primary School.

Small steps in assistance to the people of Kanthi are giant steps towards their sustainability!
