Update Bulletin 41

How amazing and enterprising are the village people of Kanthi….so keen to learn, so keen to progress!

These are the people Ruth Ntheeu is teaching First Aid to which she learned from St. John Ambulance on her trip to Australia earlier this year. Please see Ruth (with glasses) in the background of Photo No.4. They are using the Nursery School building, using the table and a mat from the school. The sling and bandage are ones which we sent over in the medical supplies .

In viewing these photos it is so rewarding to see the fruits of our labour, people on another continent embracing the opportunities offered to them which will enable them to ‘thrive not just survive’!

Thank you again to everyone who has supported this project.

Daniel has sent receipts for the materials purchased to date for the Dispensary which I shall include in the next update bulletin.

Cheers,

HELEN

Update Bulletin 40

Well, when the people of Kanthi set their minds to working they sure work. Please find below the Dispensary (Medical Centre) progress with building works, it is amazing, to think that they have made the bricks and laid them to this stage.

I am also including the Nursery school photos which Daniel sent, the tables and chairs look sturdy for the little ones. As you will read in Daniel’s email they have employed a new teacher and Daniel included a photo of her.

To Hellen

Hi! Kindly receive much greetings from me.I wanted to inform you that we agreed with constructor to pay him ksh 30,000/= for foundation level and ksh 60,000/= for the whole wall and we have paid some amount to constructor. We didn’t agree the amount of roofing , plastering floor and shatters.

Our school nursery school teacher whom we had got married got married far away , where by she was not able to continue teaching and that we employed another woman from within .attached is her photo.

I wanted to create an awareness to you for what we have done.

Yours N. Ntheeu.

All seems to be going along very smoothly and I forwarded a second payment today for materials so as not to hold up any progress as they are aware that hopefully ‘the rains’ come in October/November. The amount I forwarded was Ksh 111,170.82 (A$1,460.00).

Update Bulletin 39

Well what progress with the Dispensary (Medical Centre). Not only did the people of Kanthi make the bricks but are now up to laying them, women and all! They are hurrying to get as much work done as possible before the rains come, late October early November. This is their basic rainfall for the year (in the past 300 ml) and so they need to collect/preserve what water they can source. I understand the pump that feeds the water into Mutomo from the source has broken down and so Kanthi village is without piped water until it is fixed. This could take sometime by all accounts. Thank goodness the water to Kanthi from Mutomo is gravity fed otherwise we would be constantly in trouble. Once the pump is fixed and certainly when the rains come the water should flow again to Kanthi. Note all the gerry cans lined up around the building site, I would hope this would be tank water!

Note the progress from the foundations in Update Bulletin No. 38 and the women working.

How joyous the couple, who donated money specifically for the Nursery school children’s breakfasts and lunches, must feel to see the photos below. As Pastor Daniel would say ‘God bless you both’.

Elizabeth Ndunda is due back in Australia in three weeks time and I am sure she will have more photos and stories about the progress in the village. I shall contact Hon. Rachael Nyamai MP to see how the Primary school which the Kenyan Government are funding is progressing. I shall include these photos of the children also to ‘jog her along’ to have the first classroom ready for the children’s transfer in the New Year.
